Beautiful Newport Scenery and Wildlife

A holiday cottage near Newport will allow you to explore some of the finest countryside, coastal pathways and wildlife in the whole of the country. Some of the islands along the coast of Pembrokeshire are home to some fascinating species, with around 5,000 Atlantic Grey Seals calling it home. A trip to Ramsay Island near St David’s is well worth your time to see these. Hiking opportunities are also plentiful with a trip up the ‘the mountain of angels’ Carn Ingli providing a spectacular picnic spot with stunning views of the surrounding area. A holiday in Pembrokeshire will provide you with the chance to see gulls, chuffs, puffins, seals, dolphins, basking sharks and even some sea turtles. The Welsh Wildlife Centre is just a short drive away, as well as several stunning beaches.

Pembrokeshire Coastal Paths

Newport is close to our cottages and is the perfect starting spot for some of the most exciting and beautiful coastal paths you can find. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is home to 186 miles of path, 58 beaches and 14 harbours for walkers of all levels of experience and ability to explore. Starting in Newport you can travel North from Traethmawr (Big Beach) all the way to St Dogmaels, and to the South from the Parrog all the way along to Amroth and the South Pembrokeshire Coast. There are glorious hidden gems of coves and different stop off points where you can sit for a while to take in the scenery, have a swim at certain points, chat with other walkers and have a pint or a bite to eat in a pub. If you are worried about the length of the walks there is a bus service that runs back to Newport from both Dinas and Fishguard.

Brilliant Fishing and Boat Trips

We are so lucky to be based in a part of Wales that is well renowned as offering the best fishing experience around. Whether you are seeking the thrill of sea fishing, game, coarse or still water fishing you have your pick when staying at one of our Newport holiday cottages. Experience Môr owns half a mile of its own bank of fly water that is set amidst a stunning backdrop. It makes us the perfect holiday cottage choice for fishing enthusiasts. From 1st April to 17th October you can catch Sewin (Sea Trout) and Salmon. We’d recommend putting your skills to the test in the local River Nevern or just an hour’s drive away on the River Cothi. We can also point you in the right direction for boat trips along the Pembrokeshire coast, taking in the sea and wildlife along the many islands and coves.

Fascinating Culture and Good Times

Pembrokeshire has an array of shops, restaurants, pubs and galleries in its many towns and in Newport there is plenty of opportunities to eat good food, relax and meet locals and tourists without ever feeling overwhelmed or crowded. There’s a small supermarket, brilliant butcher, fishmonger and a deli to use during your stay. The Golden Lion offers gastropub cuisine and a lively local atmosphere, a range of other pubs and the beaches that run along the coastline that provide a memorable meeting point. As mentioned the Parrog is a great starting spot for the entire Wales Coast Path. In a car you can reach the traditional town of St Davids and its Cathedral or see the ancient monuments at Pentre Ifan to name just two sights within easy reach during your stay at our West Wales holiday cottages.
