Penmynydd Uchaf, Newport

Penmynydd Uchaf is a secluded stone cottage, surrounded by almost 5 acres of its own garden and fields, with panoramic views of Fishguard Harbour and the coastline around to Newport. This gem of a ‘house in the hills’ is nearly 900ft above sea level, although still less than an 8-minute drive (2.4 miles) from the picturesque village of Cwm-yr-Eglwys and its beautiful beach. With the village of Dinas Cross and the fabulous 1.5-mile long Newport Sands only a matter of minutes away, we can offer you a holiday cottage which combines the perfect getaway with easy access to everything you might need.

This property is our latest and will be available from 14th July 2017. By this time several "guinea pigs” will have ironed out all teething problems. It's currently being totally modernised and given the Experience Môr treatment.  If you'd like to follow its progress click here...

This gorgeous cottage, in its own private garden and with amazing sea views, is a peaceful, secluded retreat which you will relax into from the moment you arrive. Each room has been decorated to the highest standard, enhancing the original features with up-to-date appeal and all the luxury of home comforts. Furnished throughout with locally-sourced antiques and quality modern pieces, the cottage's homely feel is enriched with original local artists’ work covering the walls.

You can enter the property directly into a boot room which includes a sink ideal for cleaning up after the muddier walks. Here you can kick off your boots, hang-up your exploring attire and even rub down your dog. The underfloor heating will keep your feet warm, whatever the weather.

From here you enter the spacious but cosy sitting room with a large sofa, cheerful log-burning stove, widescreen TV with Sky HD box, WiFi, and a Blu-Ray DVD player. At one end of the sitting room, the door leads you straight into the kitchen and you will be instantly drawn to the west-facing window with its panoramic sea views. You will be greeted by our welcome pack, which includes a bottle of red & white wine plus a range of locally-sourced and organic treats. Fitted out with a range of wooden units, a large Range cooker and a solid farmhouse-style table, this luxurious kitchen will make you feel immediately at home. We always strive to make your stay at our cottages as comfortable as possible, and have taken great care to provide everything we can think of, including some of our favourite cookery books. As at each of our properties, there are all the washing and drying facilities you could need during your stay, as well as a double-fronted American-style fridge freezer with ice-maker.

Through the sitting room and up a further 6 steps is a bathroom with bath and power shower, WC and hand basin. On your left is "the snug", this 2nd sitting room is an ideal place to relax and have time to yourself. Up 2 more steps you find yourself in the downstairs bedroom with a king-sized bed and ample storage space. With enchanting views over the garden and original prints and paintings on the walls, this bedroom boasts an impressive solid wooden king-sized bed with a deep mattress, white linen and a luxurious pure cotton throw, offering a warm welcome each night or a cosy place for a lie-in in the mornings.

Upstairs there are two further spacious and welcoming bedrooms, and a family bathroom. The quality of the decor and homely touches continue throughout each beautifully laid-out room, both of which also have solid wooden bedsteads with superbly comfortable mattresses, crisp white sheets and luxurious pure cotton throws. The larger bedroom (with its own TV) has a king-sized bed. The third bedroom has a double bed and full-sized bunk beds. Both have plenty of hanging space and panoramic coast and sea views.

This is, irrefutably, a rambler’s haven, a place for family bonding time, another dimension to a child’s education. A quiet retreat, and somewhere to recharge your batteries – you Experience Môr than you might expect here at Penmynydd Uchaf!

Approached by half a mile of private drive, this tranquil property is just over 4 miles from the coastal town of Newport with its first-class shops, pubs and restaurants. Particularly popular with our guests is the award-winning butcher’s shop T.G. Davies & Sons and the wide variety of excellent eating-places such as Llys Meddyg, The Golden Lion and The Canteen, most of which are dog friendly and welcome families for both lunch and dinner. The village of Cwm-yr-Eglwys, only 2.4 miles away, offers a picturesque sand-and-shingle cove with rock pools at low tide. On the beach front there is the end wall of a chapel, the remainder having been washed away by storms in 1859. With dogs welcome all year round, both Cwm-yr-Eglwys and Newport Sands are just waiting for your visit!
