Glantawel is a spacious secluded stone cottage, recently renovated and extended, sitting in its own individual and immaculate grounds on the banks of the River Nevern in a stunning wooded valley. The property is set in 30 acres of our woods and farmland and has over ½ mile of productive fishing rights. Perfect for fishermen, walkers and nature lovers who will appreciate the tranquil riverside location and the rich variety of wildlife.
This gorgeous cottage, in its own private garden with river frontage just 35 yards away, is a peaceful, secluded retreat which you will relax into from the moment you arrive. Each room has been decorated to the highest standard, enhancing the original features with up-to-date appeal and all the luxury of home comforts. Furnished throughout with locally-sourced antiques and quality modern pieces, the cottage’s homely feel is enriched with quirky and original local artists’ work adorning the walls.
Entering the cottage through the front door you step into a charming sitting room with a large L-shaped sofa, original wooden beams and log burning stove. A sun room leads from the sitting room onto a patio overlooking the stunning garden and river, ready for those alfresco meals and impromptu barbecues. The sun room is filled with light during the day and is a favourite reading room or children’s play area. Here you can listen to the River Nevern flowing past and the many songbirds feeding at the bird table. Step out into the garden and walk along the river bank where you may see ducks, nuthatches, dippers and woodpeckers, or herons and kingfishers catching their next meal.
The character continues through to the kitchen, where you will be greeted with our welcome pack, a bottle of red wine and two large glasses. Fitted out with solid wooden units, a large range cooker and a solid farmhouse-style table seating 6, the kitchen features original beams, stone walls and a vaulted ceiling. We always strive to make your stay as comfortable as possible and have taken great care to provide everything we could think of, including some of our favourite cookery books. Through the kitchen is the utility room, with all the washing and drying facilities you will need as well as a double fronted American-style fridge freezer with ice-maker. You can also enter the cottage through its outside door which features an outdoor WARM shower area, making this the ideal entrance after those Môr adventurous and muddy expeditions with your dog, or a day on the beach.
Back through the sitting room and down the corridor, with its original prints and paintings, you will find a separate wc and basin, the family bathroom with walk-in shower, and then the bedrooms: the first of which has full-sized bunk beds and a further single, with enchanting views over the garden to the river and ample storage space. The quality of decor and attention to detail is carried through to the master bedroom which boasts an impressive solid wooden king-sized bed with white linen and luxurious pure cotton throws, offering a warm welcome each night or a cosy place for a lie-in in the mornings. There is plenty of hanging space with full-length mirrored wardrobes, and the same wonderful views over the garden and river.
This is, irrefutably, a rambler’s heaven, a fisherman’s dream, a place for family bonding time, another dimension to a child’s education, a quiet retreat, and somewhere to recharge your batteries – you Experience Môr than you might expect here at Glantawel!
Approached by a 600m drive, this tranquil property is just over 2 miles from the coastal town of Newport with its excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The 2.5 mile long, unspoilt golden beach at Newport Sands (dog friendly all year round) is close by, and upstream is the picturesque village of Nevern with its Norman Church, famous Weeping Yew, Celtic Cross and popular village pub The Trewern Arms.
The cottage, while completely private in its own enclosed garden, is close to Dyffryn Tawel and Glandwr, and is perfect for dog owners, walkers and families. It is also ideal for larger groups looking to rent all three properties together, for an idyllic & special gathering.
Glantawel has a faithful and committed following: one of our regular families has just booked for their sixth stay in two years!
Special care is needed with children in the Cwm Tawel properties as the River Nevern flows alongside the gardens, approximately 35 yards from the cottages.

Relaxing cottage in such a beautiful hidden spot. Perfect walks with the dogs & fishing on the river (we caught a small trout!).
Wonderful cottage in a fantastic location, loved the lengthy single track road to the cottage, the garden wildlife, the river and the pitch black nights. Newport town and beach is great - dogs loved it. Great walks including some fantastic viewpoints from mountains in the local area.
Had a lovely week in this cottage, the dogs loved Newport beach so much we spent a lot of time there! Lovely tranquil surroundings, enjoyed all the wildlife in the garden. A nice relaxing stay, thank you Jonathan and your team.
We loved the local walks. The woodland walk is great for morning dog walks. A great destination for a 'doggie holiday'.
Lovely 2 weeks in perfect location. Great place to bring the dogs, beaches also dog friendly. We will definitely be back in the near future.

A lovely holiday. Loved exploring the coastline. Trip round Ramsay Island in the RSPB boat fabulous. Lots of seals and pups - and a peregrine falcon! Wonderful.

“Superb cottage in a beautiful and peaceful location” We had a hugely enjoyable week at Glantawel.
Another fabulous 2 weeks, everything as good as before. Thank you Jonathan for wine, fruit ect.
We had a hugely enjoyable week at Glantawel. It's a delightful cottage, renovated to a very high standard with a warm and homely feel that is instantly welcoming. We felt very cosy and undisturbed during our stay. The only noise we could hear was the singing of birds and the tinkling of water from the pretty river that flows by the garden. There are lovely walks directly from the front door, and a delightful and historical village barely 10 minutes’ walk away.
