Our Eco & Ethical credentials

Caring for the environment is at the core of everything we do at Experience Môr; it’s in our nature.

We appreciate that it is the environment that has made our locations spectacular; it only seems right that we return the favour.

The landscape that takes our breath away, the wildlife that lifts our spirits, the sun that gives us energy, the wind that blows the cobwebs away; our locations exist harmoniously with the wild world of Wales.

Caring for the environment is at the core of everything we do at Experience Môr; it’s in our nature. No matter how much effort we put into making our properties as special as they can be, we appreciate that it is the environment that has made our locations spectacular; it’s only right that we return the favour and with interest when we can!

When we bask in glorious Welsh sunshine, our solar panels gather that energy and harness it to help provide electricity for our properties. Whether our coastal waters are hot or cold, solar water panels provide ample hot water for all year round.  Glandwr Farmhouse, has solar water panels on 3 different elevations to capture the most solar energy throughout the day – even on overcast days!

When the nights draw in, there is nothing quite like the natural heat and primordial warmth of a log burner. With seasoned hardwood logs sustainably harvested from our own woodlands in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, the experience is unbeatable, naturally. Not forgetting the odd off-cut or trimming, our salvaged kindling sticks always get the fire started – waste not, want not!

In what has become the signature of Experience Môr, our properties combine traditional character with contemporary quality; the impact on the environment is considered at every stage of their renovation and rejuvenation.

Under-floor heating and LED lighting are just some of the features that help our properties meet our own exacting environmental standards. We only source appliances with the highest credentials, including, where possible, eco-settings and automatic standby options.

Single glazed windows and doors have been replaced by high quality double-glazed, with a large part being sourced from a local family owned joinery. We remain committed to supporting local craftsmanship and keeping traditional skills alive.

Never wanting to waste, and never wanting to get behind the times; all improvements are installed in a phased manner, in our ongoing quest for eco-perfection!

All cleaning, washing and toiletries at Experience Môr undergo the same stringent inspection; big fans of Ecover, they provide our ecologically exceptional products, made only from plant-based and mineral ingredients. We are now seeking Palm Oil (the worst cause of deforestation) free products to use wherever possible.

We also provide hand-soap, bath & shower gel and shampoo & conditioner from Ecover and The White Company. All are purchased in the largest containers possible and then are decanted into smaller re-usable containers for each bathroom to reduce transport, waste and packaging.

We are only too conscious that we and our guests, despite our best efforts, inevitably produce waste as part of our day-to-day lives; and therefore recycling plays a major part in our commitment to the environment. With facilities to help you recycle always at hand at every property, these include large compost bins that provide compost for our gardens and potted plants. In 2014 we stopped buying cut flowers, many of which had to be imported. All plants in all properties are now LIVING plants which usually last for many months or even years!

Not satisfied with just the recycling of waste, we also take every opportunity to re-purpose, reuse and up-cycle; with three stair carpets already laid using off-cuts from local carpet fitters. Further salvage includes discarded doors, windows, surfboards, board games, plants and other goodies! As keen supporters of local charity shops we’ve built up an impressive collection of books, videos and board games – whilst doing our bit at the same time.

With a Welcome Pack more generous than most, we provide Welsh Organic milk, locally baked Bara Brith, a large bowl of fruit, a mixture of Fairtrade and Organic – all as locally grown as possible, plus a smattering of more exotic fruit.

Also, we provide local free-range eggs produced from Treginnis Farms for City Children (farmsforcitychildren.org), where city kids are given hands-on experience of life on a farm – a cause close to our hearts that we are proud to support.

For the culinary creative, each cottage has its own living herb trough, from which guests are encouraged to take their pick. Parsley, Sage, Thyme, Coriander, Chives, Rosemary and Mint – they don’t come any fresher!

We pride ourselves on the rich variety of wildlife at all of our locations. Each property has its own thriving bird table, and we even attract Woodpeckers. Badgers, Foxes and Otters have been seen at all locations – a testimony to our holiday havens, these four-legged visitors return again and again. To help our budding bird fanatics, Binoculars and Bird Identification books are provided in all cottages – do make sure to let us know your best spots!

These are just some of the things we do as part of our commitment to the environment. Making sure our carbon footprint is kept to an absolute minimum; we’re much happier leaving footprints in the sand, or the odd muddy puddle! This is just the beginning of our adventure, so stay tuned for more developments as we continue to pursue our planet-saving aims…

All of our staff, whether directly or self employed, are committed to these aims. Let’s together do our bit!
